Substitute teachers
List your name here if you are available or willing to be a substitute teacher in case one of our teachers has to drop out.
Re: Substitute teachers
Just for the record, if I need to step in as something else I'm happy to do it. I know I have a role I'm already doing, just saying I'm flexible.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes. Yes it does. And I'm half tempted to say we should just PLAN on that back up person being the actual herbology professor, although the public face is going to have to look otherwise.

Re: Substitute teachers
Looks like we need a backup for Herbology and we may need a straight-up replacement for DADA. Subs, you might want to think about which of these you prefer.

Re: Substitute teachers
The scoop is we've requested twice now a response from Philip and not gotten one, although he's seen the request(s). I'm giving him till tomorrow to respond and/or give us a yes or no.
Re: Substitute teachers
Ive just thought of someone who would be a fabulous Lockhart. He's a local friend, professional actor, filmmaker and more. Wickedly talented and funny as heck. He and his family are huge HP fans and have been following HT. I am happy to contact him and explain the tenuous situation and gauge his interest. His wife and daughter are actor, singer dancers as well. His wife teaches dance at Noe Middle School.

I'd hold on that, Mia, until we see if David has interest. I don't think David has to take it on if he doesn't want to but I do think that offering him the chance to decline it first is a wise choice. It's also financially advantageous to have as many board members doubling duties as we can, of course, although that shouldn't be the only deciding factor.

Cool, i didn't know David was interested. He'd be swell!

Re: Substitute teachers
Per request from JP, I sent a follow-up message to Philip yesterday afternoon (since I also know him and his wife from attending hp-ohio activities). He has until 9pm this Sunday (April 15) to respond. He has seen the PM but not yet responded to it. After that, I think we are agreed we will need to find a replacement.

I'm still surprised we're back to this spot again for Year Two. I thought it was a fluke from Year One but, yeah, apparently not...

DADA is evidently cursed in real life too!

Re: Substitute teachers
I was reading a book today for a work project and it was about transition - I'm paraphrasing but it was basically a statement that, especially in times of transition, allowing apathy to carry forward is a mistake. I feel like Philip has long since stated his position by his silence: I understand that we're doing the "right" thing because we don't want to burn a bridge, but, well, yeah. Silence an inaction are answers, too.

Re: Substitute teachers
I agree that as of 9:01pm this Sunday, we very well need to be ready to move forward with a replacement. However, he was given until that time to respond, and I feel we should honor that. However, yep, after that it's time to move on.

Also, he is evidently in New York City so may be unable to respond to the message until he gets back. I know he and his wife have been there since at least Tuesday. They will probably be back in the next day or so.

Re: Substitute teachers
Bullshit. He's been on fb and liking other posts. In the for-what-it's-worth department, I've also written him other times asking if he needed anything in the way of props for class/wand dueling - which I had hoped he'd head up.
Nothing.
Silence.
I love Philip and Jen, but we simply can't have anyone like this as a teacher. I think I speak for all of us when I say we want the highest production value in everything but most of all in our staff.

Re: Substitute teachers
I think we're expending FAR more energy than he is and than he deserves on this. I don't mean that in a snipey, nasty way, I mean that I think we're going above and beyond what his behaviors warrant. If it leaves us feeling like we were "right" in our approach I think that's great, but it's not worth getting too upset about, I don't think. He and Jen are very nice, I hope they will attend, but it's clear that for some reason they don't want the additional engagement that being staff means. That's OK, we just move on.

Re: Substitute teachers
Explaining the tentativeness of the offer, I reached out to Ben Evans to gauge his interest in a "Lockhart" role. He is very interested and on standby to learn more should the board want to move forward in considering him for the position.
